    Sub ?300 laptop?

    Any decent'ish LT at that price? Dont have to be fancy, just for surfing really. Thanks in advance.

    i am so tempted by those asus eee pcs but looks like there is a version launching next year with more ram, bigger onboard memory capacity and windows xp

      I am too..i've been waiting for a reply in this thread. My laptop is really dated, had a memory upgrade, its just dated tbh. (old imb thinkpad)

        word on this is really positive, found a site the other day that had opened it up and had all sorts of mods and hacks to install extra software on the linux version.

        ram chips are standard and easily flipped (but does invalidate your warranty) and they had step by step how to get windows xp on it if you prefer.

        for a straight surf tool though they said it works out the box, plus is a really good media player.

        don't get me started i'd resisted but talking myself into it again.

          Is it just a case of buying it and linux is the OS, then i put my IP software on and firewall/antivirus/spware and i'm away?

            merf - you can install XP on the current ones, provided you have an XP licence. Drivers are all available etc..

            Two of my mates have EEE PC's already!

            How about this thing as an alternative?

            HP 530 Laptop, £294.

                Is there anything it cant do that a full size LT can?
