Is this cable just better on your TV because the component input on the TV is pap and the vga is good? Or would everyone see an improvement? How come a conversion from component to vga doesn't degrade the picture quality (not something I know anything about really)?

Esentially, it's just taking the YPbPr source (which is a 'compressed' form of RGB, essentually Component sents Red and Blue information, and assumes everything else is Green, though it is more complicated than that) and rendering it as the uncompressed RGB that VGA uses. It's a conversion, but since it's simply converting from one RGB-based format to another, quality loss is barely existent.
It's different to converting from, say, Composite, because that's not an RGB-based format, they cannot derive RGB-based information from the signal like they can from Component.

There is absolutely no way the VGA box could provide a better picture, it's only going to look as good as the weakest point. It's still taking the Component source and turning it into a VGA one, and the quality is going to be dependant on the hardware doing the conversion. However, I used to have a VDigi, and quality difference was slight at best, it looks real nice. Most people would think it was straight Component native (and that's a good thing, it's not supposed to be making it look better as such).
It's intended for people who might already have a real nice VGA monitor, allowing them to use 480p. It's not intended to be a replacement for Component as such.

I'm willing to guess that my tv probably just has a below par component quality or something, and that by using VGA everything just comes through cleaner. I've fiddled with the display settings using the component cable and I simply cannot get it to match the pic quality that it achieves using the VGA cable nonetheless.
I only have a basic camera phone so pictures wouldnt be very good.

Is it worth me buying one of those Vdigi cables for my new Wii? The component output on my 360 looks great, but when I had a Wii previously it looked shockingly bad (might be related to the Gameplay brand component cable, I'm not sure). Looking at the screenshots provided by Vdigi it certainly looks a HELL of alot clearer.

Just had a look at the provided picture of the Gameplay branded component cables over at their site, and they look awfully thin cables, I would say you are most likely getting a poorer picture as a result, interference perhaps.
If your tv handles component well it might be your best bet to get the official component cables instead, unless you're confident you wont get any improvement with official cabling and want to take the risk.Last edited by Kyutu; 20-12-2007, 17:12.

Thanks!
The final price came to $49.90 USD (?25), and it came in a large padded envelope with the cable out of the box and the box folded flat beside it. Its listed as a gift with a value of $28 USD.
