Buying a US Wii, couple of questions

About to order from VG+ tonight as its a bit of a no-brainer at the cost really. Only problem is that I've had to go back in to work and this is about the only useful site I can get to, hence the questions!

    1. What sort of transformer/cable do I need to buy to be able to use the Wii in a UK power socket?

    2. Are the extra controllers & accessories cheaper to import too?

    3. Anything else I should look out for or buy with the console or in preparation for it?

    Thanks,

    Mike.

    1. I have used one of these for the last 9 months

    2. Probably Get Wii play if you fancy another Wiimote, as that comes with a DISC which you'd probably like to try. THe disc isn't very interesting but still.

    3. You might want to buy some prepaid Wii points cards , alternatively you can pay by changing your console to the Brazil region and using your Credit/debit card

Thanks Boris. So there's an easy workaround for the VC purchases? That's a relief. I'll check out that eBay link too.

Yeah, I'd been using prepaid cards myself as trying to use your card on the US VC wouldn't work

You change your consoles location to brazil then you just go through the payment as normal

Thanks Boris. That's the adapter bought. I'll check out and see if I can get some pre-paid cards with the console.

It's easier to just buy through the VC channel.

The points are far cheaper ($10 for 1000), all you need is a Mastercard, Visa or Visa Electron card.

              A few questions Mike.

Has vg+ agreed to mark down to avoid customs?

How much is delivery to the UK?

Shipping is $50. No idea about marking it down, I've not asked tbh. Maybe someone who's ordered from them before could comment on that one.

A friend imported one of these from VG+ last week. Without request they marked it down to $20 or something and he has therefore not paid any duty on it at all. He didn't ask them to do it they just did it as standard, but may still be worth making the request !

SOLD. I'm going to do this right now, i'm sick of making phone call after phone call to UK shops to find they don't have them in stock. Plus it's cheaper, why i never thought of importing before is beyond me. Cheers guys

did you choose this, as when i'm running the order through it comes up as $83CAD which equals £41

This. They always mark to $20 USD.

Check if the USD price of shipping is different to CAD - the exchange rate is slightly better.

I ordered a Wii last yesterday from VG+ with Mario Galaxy and Paper Mario and a extra Wii remote(Wii Play) and was charged $99 CAD for shipping.

is this right? I feel ripped off now

Sounds like a lot to me but what shipping option did you go for? Boxes with the size and weight of a Wii can lead to high shipping costs but, even then, it does sound like a lot even in Canadian dollars.

Shipping for mine was ?41 as stated earlier. I'd imagine the inclusion of WiiPlay has bumped the price up since it would require a bigger box to ship it all in.
