Buying a european Wii to play in the UK - problems??

Hi folks,

Just a very quick one and I think the answer will be yes it will be fine apart from the plug but...


My Uncle is away in Holland and comes back tomorrow and he wanted to buy a Wii for his son but as you all know the shortage of Wii's in the UK is silly and he said there are Wiis for sale there.

He as asked me if it will work here in the UK.

I think it will bar the plug (but he could get past this via a adaptor or even a new PSU from Nintendo UK?)

Picture will be fine as its still PAL.

But the thing I am unsure about is connecting to the internet and downloading VC games and using the online features??


Can anyone share ANY possibe problems he might encounter buying a Holland sold Wii to use in the UK??


I did try and look in the Wii Q+A section but found nothing on this and I have noticed a few others ask this question but I couldnt find a concrete answe and I dont wana see him waste his money.

The VC works via region... the European Wii all come under the Euro region for the VC games. The US Wii for example covers all of north and south Americas (so US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico etc). Should be no issues because you'll be able to set your home country to the UK.

As an Englishman in Norway, I can assure you that the Euro consoles are fine. Just need a new plug. Same voltage, same AV options.

There are heaps of Wii's in Europe and I strongly suggest UK residents buy them if they are really struggling. Amazon.de is the cheapest for delivery.

Except you can't now... Amazon in France and Germany have blocked UK buyers from purchasing Wii! Stupid, very stupid...

Or you can do what friends of ours did. They did a booze cruise to Calais for a ?10 and picked up a Wii (or 7) whilst over there.
