My Gmail has been compromised...Google are being mad unhelpful

So, as above really. On the morning of October 8th 2007 I logged into my Gmail account and everything was fine. tried to log in later that day and was unable to do so. Error message that my password was incorrect kept appearing.

I tried to request a password reminder to my other email address (a hotmail one which I used before I signed up to Gmail) but nothing came through.

I emailed Google about the problem and waited for a reply. Nothing, emailed again, got a response asking for more information (date of account creation, address of three contacts, invitation to Gmail link address etc) I provided what I could.

Haven't heard anything back for about 4 weeks. Intermittently I have been trying to log in and today, because I haven't attempted a log in for 5 days, I was able to access my secret question. Guess what, this has been changed.

Not happy. So, on the off chance, I requested another password reminder. I got a message on screen saying to check my 126.com account for instructions about how to access my Gmail.

    Here's the kicker; I don't have a 126.com account. It's a Chinese website. I don't speak, or read, Chinese.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm really unimpressed with Googles customer service at helping me access my email account. What really pisses me off is they go on about how seriously they take peoples privacy and security. I have emails in this account with important info in them like flight itineraries & hotel bookings for my trip to Japan next year. I have changed every contact address and password for every website I can remember (obviously I can't access my Google toolbar because I can't sign in) but I am bound to have missed something.

The thing that gets me is that the only way to contact Google is to email them. No hone numbers what-so-ever.

Why has it taken so long for them to sort this out? Does anybody have any idea what else I can do? Sorry to have gone on a bit of a rant but I'm just a little miffed that someone has broken into my email and I can't see what damage has been done.

    Bummer.

You get what you pay for though. Get yourself a domain name and get some email hosting. It's pennies really. £12/year? You'll be less of a target and you can turn it on or off and phone someone.

(sorry I can't help with the google thing - I guess they get this all the time).
