    Firefox memory leak

    Hi there

For ages now my Firefox has leaked memory like a sieve. When it gets to about 500,000K my pages slow down so bad I think I must be on dial-up.

I have changed the settings in about:config that the support pages on Mozilla's site suggest but it still happens.

Does this happen for everyone with Firefox? Googling throws up loads of people who suffer with this and this is the only thing that really annoys me about Firefox.

Has anyone got any other suggestions about how to solve this as (and no i am not going back to IE! ) constant restarts of Firefox are driving me mad.

    Many thanks

What are you doing to get it that high? As I understood it it was more about the way it caches just about everything and doesn't free it up again. Apparently the new Firefox 3 beta that came out this week is loads better for it, give that a go maybe?

I'm just surfing. Nothing really memory intensive. Just mainly on forums.

Will give the beta a go and see how that works out

Just set it up so we will see how that goes.

Only problem is that all the plug-ins for my previous version of Firefox are not compatible

I am really going to miss that Youtube downloader

So far so good. Works a treat. Sites load much quicker than they have before installing the beta. Let's hope it stays that way.

I have the same problem both at home and here (Work). I put up with it at the moment though, if I go to the beta I'll lose my extensions and the extensions are the only thing that stop me from hopping over to Opera.

I'm sure there's a tool for Firefox that allows you to manually change a command line in Firefox extensions so 90% work with new release candidates.

The name of it escapes me but someone greater will probably know what that is.

By all accounts the Beta is better on Memory

It's better but not perfect. Pages do seem to load faster though
