    360 Laser change.

Has anyone here changed their laser in their 360? Was wondering if it was a tricky job?

Doesn't seem to be, but i was wondering if their was any tweaking/adjusting that needing doing which may be out of my expertise?

I'm pretty sure it will be like most other lasers in that it will be setup as far as possible and the only adjustments required will be physical like height etc.
If your worried just buy the whole drive. There are plenty on ebay.

      My mate has done one.
Wasn't THAT tricky, but more awkward than, say, a PS2.
Taking the 360 apart is the trickiest bit!
You'll probably need to de-solder a link on the new laser too.
Bear in mind a new drive is a possibility, but you'll need to read the firmware from your old one, then flash it on the new one (afaik?).

Yep-a-rooney, the laser change isn't too bad (and opening the 360 requires simple tools such as a paper clip...)

Changing the drive can be a bit harder depending on your PC setup - have a read up before deciding which route to go I've changed a few drives over, and it normally means an initial one-off layout of about 20 quid for the PC end of things before getting a new drive.....

Are you 100% its the laser thats borked out, and not pieces of the plaggy inside the drive?

What do you mean by plaggy mate? Im pretty sure its the laser as i am getting 'this disc is dirty' signals al the time now.

As i use a Mac Danny do you think i may be hindered?

Ah - if it's the DDE then it prolly is your laser thats borked.....
To replace the whole drive, you'll ideally need a pc with sata - I believe macs have done it using windows/dos emulation, but its tricky and not guaranteed to work.....
