Buying a PS3

I want some advice to buy a PS3. I am getting backpay, payrise and 175 pounds bonus on 14th December.

My main need is region A for US movies/TV series on Blu Ray disc.

I got lot of Japanese and American PS2 games. (Don't know how good PS3 is at upscaling)

I want to play games like Uncharted - Drake's Fortune, Ridge Racer 8, new Rachet game and everybody's golf.

I was thinking of buying a white Japanese PS3 but was put off due to no blood in Uncharted game. (Does this affect Hong Kong version or not)

So what the best option for me ? I don't have black consoles in my home apart from a old US XBOX which is hidden in the cupboard as spare.

1. hunt for 60g USA PS3
2. Wait for different colour US PS3
3. buy 40g or 80g PS3
4. Go ahead and buy white PS3 from Asia.

Another question is 40gb enough to keep me going for couple of months ?

Have US got their own release of everybody's golf yet ?

Well there's no such game as RR8, I assume you mean RR7 =P

Both Japanese and US machines are Region A for Blu-Ray, so it doesn't actually matter which you get, but be aware you will only be able to play PS1/2 games from that region, and the 40GB machines have no backwards compatibility.

If possible, get a US or Japanese 60GB machine, as these have hardware backwards compatibility. And get one sooner rather than later. You may not be able to get a hardware backwards compatible machine anymore in fact. imo the upscaling is nice.

In hindsight, I wish I had bought a USA PS3, and not a Japanese one. I'm having some troubles related to games now that wouldn't be a problem with a USA one.

- Japanese text on the RSS feeds
- The Eye games not working
- No blood in RFOM, and Uncharted

Just seems that there's a lot more reliance on the actual phsyical region of the machine than there should be in an idea region free world.

edit: Also, don't appear to be able to play UK Region 2 DVDs on Japanese PS3s as you just get a message saying it doesn't support PAL signals.
