    DivX Problem

Got a small problem with DivX being installed on my PC using WMP 11. Sometimes when I play a video file it is 'squashed' horizontally so it is very narrow and impossible to watch.

The file will play in VLC but I prefer to use WMP11.

I uninstalled DivX and the files played fine so is there something I can change to stop this or do I really need DivX?

    Many thanks

You just need a codec installed and any media player SHOULD play it fine.

But it seems to be a problem if i have DivX installed. Just tried reintalling the DivX codec and it happened again. take it off and the file plays fine.

Here's an app to change xvid/divx aspect ratios, without having to re-encode the original avi. See if the divx (or xvid) file has the right aspect, as in is it 4:3, 16:9, 16:10 etc... Just select with aspect ratio you want and save out a copy a try it till you get the right size displayed...

Sometimes a file will play in WMP fine, then wrong in VLC or the other way round. Hope this helps...

You could also dowload MediaPlayer Classic. It has a handy feature where you can use the number keypad (on your keyboard) to stretch or shrink the picture horizontally or vertically.
