what happens when an import console breaks (how does garantee work)

ok its obvious when you buy a console from a shop close to where you live you just go back to the shop and ask a new working console

but what happens when you buy a console from playasia for example?
lets say your 360 gives the red rings of death in 3 months time

do you send it back to hongkong and they send you a new one or what lol?
anyone experienced with these kind of situations?

It depends from the shop. Most serious ones all have return policies, BUT you 95% of the time have to pay for shipping fees, which can be more expensive than importing a new console, since you have to first send the console (via insured and tracked shipping), and then have it sent back you. Considering you pay around $90 for shipping...

Legally, your buggered. You've not got a leg to stand on as far as warranty goes, and no company is under obligation to repair it for you.

Regardless, some will return to Sony on your behalf, but you will have to pay expenses. VG+ will return, I believe.

I think some people have found that with borked NTSC 360s, they've been able to send them to MS in the UK for repair and often got a PAL machine back. I imagine this is a bit hit and miss, though.

Yep, I can confirm that my Japanese Xbox 360 which died within 6 weeks of getting it was replaced by a refurbished PAL machine from Microsoft. The replacement unit got traded and the region locked Japanese games were sold off.
