    XP SP3 RC1 - anyone tried it?

Just wondered if anyone had installed RC1 of XP SP3 yet?

Have downloaded it from MSDN (didn't realise it had been there a while!) but wondered if any brave souls had tried it out

      Eh?

It's on MSDN, under Operating Systems, then Windows XP, then the last option "Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 1"

Will never ever test a release candidate for an OS service pack. However, I've heard XP gains a 10% in performance, I just hope they didn't include any more security centers or similar things.

If 10% increase is the worst side-effect then I'll give it a whirl. Not bothered that its RC code.

Running Vista SP1 RC on another machine and it's fairly solid, just wondered if anyone had had any really bad (ie BSOD, not booting etc...) off XP SP3.

Sounds good enough though if they've increased the speed.

The only thing on there I can find is the overview.

BTW, the MSDN is for subscribed developers only, it's kinda normal that "standard" users aren't able to see RCs.

Yeah, I was the same. Apparently there are supposed to be some minor speedups, but I just can't be arsed to look at it until the official release.

By the way, look for xp sp3 rc1 hack on google and you can find a registry edit that will allow you to download the beta via windowsupdate.

I would but I can't be arsed, lol. It's great having MSDN though, I get it for free through my work. It's for life too
