    What lead do you need to capture from PS2?

    If I want to capture games from my Ps2 to computer, what lead do I need to do this?

    Presumably I need a PS2 lead that has AV inputs for the TV and outputs to the computer capture card?

    Where can I buy such a thing?

    Thanks

    A capture only card should cost you about £10-20 at most. It'll have composite and/or S-Video input. And that's about it really. You'll need something like VirtualDub to actually do the capture/encoding. It's really straight forward.

    The way I do it is to use an Argos-SCART splitter to pipe off the RGB to the TV (through RGB or whatever, just regular video leads) while composite output goes to the capture card (A/V connectors from the output to composite in). This way I can see what's going on via a decent picture on the TV and the computer can record what's happening.

    edit: There was a tutorial I write for a website but it no longer appears online. I'll see if I can dig it out, probably got it in svn somewhere.

      I don't understand. How do you get a cable that goes from the PS2 to both the TV and the computer?

      Thanks

        There's a magic box that Argos used to do, a three-way scart splitter that also had A/V out on it. Or you can use the composite (yellow, red and white) output on an RGB lead if you have the right kind of cable.

        Just ignore that though

        Just plug a composite cable (i.e. the one you get in the box) from the PS2 into the composite input on the capture card.

          How does that allow you to watch it on the TV as you play though?

            You'll see the PS2 output on the PC dude. Don't worry about the TV output if you can't figure it out.

            Do you have a SCART switch-box? Does it have a composite out on it? If it does, you plug the composite output from the SCART box to PC. This will show the picture on the PC. The proper SCART output still goes to the TV, you'll see a picture on both TV and PC. Here's a picture...

            Code:
                      _
                     | |
                     | |
            	/| |\  <- PS2 'innit
            	 *
            	 ***************
            	               *
            		       * <- A/V lead going to SCART switch
            		       *
            	             |-*--------|
            	             |        V******\            |---------------|
                 SCART switch -> | 1 2 3  L******-------A/V---|Capture Card/PC|
            		     | *      R******/            |---------------|
                                 |-*--------|
                                   *
            		       *
            		       *     <- A/V lead from SCART switch
            		       *
            		     |----|
            		     | TV |
            		     |----|
            My solution is fairly convoluted though, you don't need to do it like this. The reason I do is ANY signal going through the switch can be recording.

              Ok thanks I'll try it.
