Firefox deleting my bookmarks >_<

I've got a problem with Firefox and its automatic updates. It downloads updates in the background whenever they become available and installs them automatically the next time I restart. Sounds good, except that every time it does this all my bookmarks, RSS feeds etc etc get wiped

Is there any way to stop the bookmarks getting wiped or am I just going to have to disable automatic updates?

I haven't used firefox for over a year but iirc you can use export/import to save your bookmarks to a seperate file on your PC and then restore them to firefox.Saves having to replace them individually.

Sorry cant be any more help.

I've never had that happen, despite having automatic updates. It doesnt sound like normal behaviour.

Yeah, shouldn't be happening, really. Not that that's much help to you. Like JB@XL says, you can export your bookmarks and import them later by:

Bookmarks tab -> Organise Bookmarks... -> File -> Export -> (Choose your directory)

If I were you I'd save your bookmarks, uninstall firefox, download the latest version and start again.

Sounds like you have a plugin thats deleting all your bookmarks. Try exporting your bookmarks and do a fresh install of firefox. Then add your plugins one at a time, nab the culprit.

That has happened to me a few times. Now, I go into "Organise Bookmarks" .. and export them to a folder on my HDD. Do this every week, and you'll be fine.

Punch Windows button + R on your keyboard and enter:

              %appdata%\mozilla\firefox\profiles\

Double click the folder that appears, and locate the bookmarks.bak file if there is one. Open it in a web browser (it's actually an HTML file in disguise) and see if your bookmarks are in it.

If they are, close Firefox, delete the bookmarks.html file that's there, and rename bookmarks.bak to bookmarks.html. Restart Firefox and they should have reappeared.

I've been using Firefox since 2002 (t'was Firebird then actually) and I'm amazed they haven't fixed this yet.

This has happened to me this evening, Lyris's tip above rectified it though (thanks), pesky updates.

Funnily enough I haven't had this happen since I upgraded to Vista...

You could try using the Foxmarks add-on. It stores your bookmarks on a remote server (the main use is so you can keep your bookmarks on various different PCs in sync) so if they did get deleted again you can just tell Foxmarks to grab them back from the server, takes about two seconds.
