Blu-Ray or HD-DVD which do you buy?

After picking up a cheap HD-DVD player for my 360 I now have access to both HD formats. Now my question is when a movie is avaliable on both formats which do you prefer to buy? I'm currently looking at the Blade Runner 5 disk set. But cannot decide which would be best.

HD-DVD because its my new toy or Blu-Ray as my PS3 is reliable and quieter.

Its a new quandry for me!!

I look up on reviews if there is no difference (sometimes hddvd has a truehd track where bluray might not) if the disc is the same i go on price, if the price is the same i go for bluray simply because i get full 1080p where as i get 1080i from my hddvd player.

I must admit I normally go Blu-Ray, dispite having no format bias. I just prefer to watch things on my PS3 w/ remote.

I am thinking if it better on blu ray I will pick it up but I like to see HD DVD get stronger. I got 16 HD DVD I think and 1 Blu Ray when it arrived.

Well, your blu-ray playing device is quiet whereas your HD-DVD playing device is noisy. Where's the quandary dude?

I generally just go for the exclusives on the format. I do find that bluray looks nicer though. i also prefer the blue-ray cases, they are swish. I was watching Blade Runner the final cut on it last night, JESUS CHRIST!

I buy both now, although I started with HD DVD as I bought the add-on for my Xbox 360 long before I got a PS3. I've got 50+ HD DVDs now and and about 7 or 8 Blu Rays. Moved on to a Toshiba stand alone HD DVD player too.

I usually go for HD DVD versions of films ahead of Blu Ray (mainly because that's the format I started with and the discs usually have 100% identical video encodes) unless the HD DVD version is a combo disc, then I'll go for the Blu Ray. I think you can guess which format I go for if the film is a Blu Ray exclusive

It's easier for me to go Blu-ray, but downstairs I have my HD-DVD drive, so I'll rent films on that (but usually exclusive ones anyway).

Assuming all else is equal, I go with the HD DVD, because if I have to choose, I'll put my cash behind the region free format.

Warner's BDs are region free too, though. And have prettier blue cases

If I had to pick then I'm a HD-DVD man myself.

Noise isn't an issue for me as my 360's not that loud and if I crank up the volume of whatever I'm watching then it's not an issue.

I've not found any difference in picture quality between the two (although I'm sure all the videophiles will tell me there is) but like Lyris I'm a big fan of region free stuff and I just prefer the greater level of interactivity of the HD-DVD format with its menus etc.

That said with Blu-Ray presently being updated to 1.1, that should sort the second one out very soon.

It's really hard to tell, but I don't think there's been anything on BD that just wouldn't be possible on HD DVD yet.

But there's some BD titles where, had they been on HD DVD instead, you wonder if they would have been compromised overseas, for example to add a bunch of different language tracks. Case in point, UK Bourne Ultimatum has the lossless audio removed to squash in dubs. Some people just feel safer with BD and the headroom it gives.

                        I've got a PS3 and the 360 HD-DVD drive and I'm still buying DVDs!
