    Xbox 360 DRE

When Halo 3 came out, I borrowed my friend's copy, and it used to error saying 'This disc is Unreadable' near the start. The disc was minty. I've recently god my own copy, and it does the same thing, in the same place.

This is a launch console, and I've never had a problem with it, so I'm not sure where I stand in terms of warrantee, or the process I have to do through. Can someone offer advice?

I'd imagine your DVD drive is on it's way out. Disc read errors on minty games isn't a good thing and it will only get worse.

I would call up MS and use your imagination as for a reason why it still might be covered.

One of mine's the same - I believe its a fault with Halo 3 and certain consoles. Mine won't load up lvls 3-6 on campaign as individual levels, there was a rumour that it's badly pressed Halo discs, but since then my Sammy drive has started acting up on Mass Effect n' all (only popping up the 'insert disc in 360' white warning screen).
Sammy's have notoriously bad lasers, so mine could be a combo of poorly pressed Halo 3 (bought on release - maybe later releases are better?) and a slightly fussy laser (all my other games work perfectly).
If it's only Halo thats borked, unless you want to force your 360 into retirement (towel=3lod), then I'd prolly suffer not playing. Otherwise it's pay MS to swap your drives so you've still got warranty.....

See, because it happens with 2 completely separate copies of Halo 3, I'm assuming it's the console not the disc. For the most part, I've never had a problem with this console (except skipping on the GoW cutscenes).

It's interesting that it happens in the same place on both copies of Halo 3.

I've had 2 consoles that started their downward descent to DVD drive failure like this, Family Fry's also did this for a year and he could eventually get it to work if he kept inserting the disc repeatedly although that finally died a few weeks ago also.

I noticed they have an online repair page where you can book a repair yourself. They as for your card details at the first possible moment though!

Screw it, no other games have a problem, I'll play Halo 3 on my brothers machine. I'd rather let my machine red light.

Just remember that if it happens even once on another game, you need to get it sorted. Last thing you want is for it to 100% die just as you fancy playing a new release (although having a brother with one eases the pain a little :P)

If you book the repair through the xbox phone line they don't ask for your card details

Oh if it persists, I'll get it sorted. I just can't justify the repair fees just for Halo 3, especially when we have another 360 in the house.

Mine did this for Halo 3 and nothing else (well, once during Forza but otherwise fine). Halo 3's a particular pain for it because it'll simply throw up a DRE error if your drive's slightly slow rather than waiting for the disc to read like other games.

Basically, I got my launch machine to red-ring and got a new one off MS for fizzle, dizzle.

Mine did the same, I saved and quit at the end of each level & success.... May work may not? But my console still works fine
