    Wii component cable

Bit of a problem I got here with my new Wii - basically, the 4gamers branded component cable I have is working strangely and I don't know whether or not it's generally a **** cable. I never had the official cable when I last owned a Wii for the brief time so I can't compare it and that's my biggest issue - how do I know that the official cable will provide much improvement?

With the Wii set to 480p, I'm getting what look like faint diagonal lines running across the screen - you have to be literally right infront of it to see them, but I'm sure they're degrading the visuals at least a little overall. Now when I change it to 480i (60hz) the lines are gone.

Has anyone ever had an unofficial cable before switching to the official one and noticed much in the way of improvement? I'm not spending more dosh on another cable unless I know it's going to be worth it.

    Cheers.

i had a similar problem although with the 360. I had issues with a 3rd party cable. Switching to an official cable solved the problem.

You get a similar diagonal effect with cheap component switchers like the infamous £5 Farmer unit from PA, so I'd say it's the cable.

I've had no end of trouble with 3rd party cables in the past, so I try to stick with official stuff now which sorts most issues. I do still however use the aforementioned Farmer switcher, and I really must get round to upgrading it to something better, as my video signal is constantly dropping momentarily.

And would that diagonal interference degrade the visuals overall? You literally have to press your face to the screen to see it.

Let's just say, if you're bothered enough to go hunting for particular TV sets and cables and whatnot, it's going to grate on you. There's no point going through all the time and expense of getting HDed up if it's not all you expected, amirite?

Pointless getting a real nice telly and cheaping out on the cables, because it makes it a waste of time at the end of the day. Official cables are unfairly expensive, but they are one-off purchases.

I do want my Wii looking as good as it can, I just worry that the official cable won't provide a noticeable improvement as the console is rather limited in that department as it is.
