    Multi-region DVD and VCD player

Hm, yes. So I want to start buying some DVDs not yet released in the UK (mostly anime), and I have a small collection of films on vcd which a friend made me that I want to keep using. So I require a multi region DVD player that play VCDs.

Nothing flashy, just something cheap and cheerful, that hopefully won't die in the next 6 months.

Amazon came up with this, which seems decent. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-DVP3...8859276&sr=8-1

I'm a little unsure what (S)VCD means, but I'm sure it's cool, VCDs will work right?

Other than that, I wondered if anyone had any other models to suggest.

    Any help appreciated.

SVCD is similar to VCD, but it's higher resolution (not quite as high as DVD though) and uses Mpeg2. Sorta a pseudo-sequel format of sorts.

I don't think you're gonna get too much cheaper than that, though it's worth remembering that most players (non-Sony etc especially) have a region free code for them.

Would it be safe to assume it plays VCD and SVCD, give the (S)?

The bracketed S implies both I've never seen one play VCD but not SVCD anyway.

Thanks dude. Think I'll just go for this model then.
