PS3 CoD4 Online - Region coded servers?

I am unable to play against my friend.

We both own Japanese machines both live in the UK and my friend uses UK version while I use the US version.

All I ever hear is American accents from those players with mics in my online firefights. So I assume that the game is connecting to US servers only.

Another point is that my friends met list only includes people that I meet through the Burnout Paradise demo ( D/L from US PSN ) and they appear to be from throughout Europe. There are no CoD4 players at all in 9 hours play.

Does this mean I am going to purchase UK CoD4 for Europe play?

There aren't servers in COD4, just player hosted matches, which can be anywhere in the world. Only Motorstorm Resistance and Warhawk uses dedicated servers

Have you managed to play a private match with anyone with the US version, or anyone at all? I have invited a few friends to a private match and all have resulted in fail to connect.....

If it's anything like the 360 one it is really intoleralant of incorrectly configured networks.
