How do I make the PSPs volume lower?

Even on one notch, trying to play it in bed at 1am when all around is in absolute silence makes the PSP (at least seem) way too loud. One notch less, silence. Is there any way to reach a middle ground between the two or am I just going to have to give up on it and play my DS in bed instead?

I'm considering just sticking something over them there two holes but I don't know what to use that won't mess up the PSP with sticky.

Don't really want to use headphones in bed.

umm... huh? The "lowest" volume setting isn't low enough?

Don't know how the slim is, but the original PSP is way too loud at its lowest setting.

Putting tape over the holes at the bottom is probably the best solution I can think of.

        Precisely the problem, yep.

It's a slim I've got, so swapping PSPs obviously not an option!

I have the "old" version. I didn't notice.

Not sure if it'll help but try this:
Sound Settings > Dynamic Normaliser > On

I totally agree - I kind of press it into the duvet a little to null the sound - had this problem trying to slyly play final fantasy at work - 1 bar could just be heard.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but can't you use headphones instead?

i know what you mean, too, but it's the same with my slim psp as it was with my regular one at one notch.

i'd imagine maybe something like blu tack over the speaker holes could help, as it's low-tack so won't leave any adhesive behind.

also, let's be honest, whatever reason toythatkills has for not wanting to use headphones, he wouldn't have made this thread if it was as easy as that

I don't like being unaware of my surroundings. If I can't see (and PSP in the dark pretty much guarantees that) then I feel uncomfortable if I can't hear!

Final Fantasy with no sound just wouldn't be the same

that's as good a reason as any

i was gonna try the blu tack thing later on but being daytime, the ambience means my ears won't be sensitive enough until late at night.

maybe some kind of low-tack rubber? the recurring theme of course is low-tack, seeing as the psp is so shiny

mine is white so it hides the fingerprints and any other marks well, so i'd have no problems sticking stuff if i had to. if it was black then i'd be a bit more wary...

another thing i was thinking of was just plugging earphones in without wearing them, and turning them up a bit. it'll sound worse, of course, but you'd have more control over the volume at the quieter levels. mind you, the earphones will probably fall around all over the place and i could see it getting annoying...

If people need to cover them, any chance of using rubber bands? it wouldn't really work on a Slim because of where the controls are but may be OK on the older model.

Isn't there that ear protection option that makes everything quieter?

AVLS? As far as I can tell, that just means you can't turn the volume up past a certain point, so it's not really any good for making it quieter
