    N00b Apple question

Probably a very simple one but would a mac read a flash pen drive I've been using with my pc? It just has some photos and text documents on it. I can't see any reason why not but thought I'd ask.

I ask as I'm very interested in the talk of a sub-notebook from apple as something to replace my aging 1Ghz Athlon pc (feel the power!).

I don't see why not - I use my external USB HD on my MacBook Pro with OS X and Windows (you can run them both on a Mac these days with "Boot Camp"). Works both ways. I used the HD with a "normal PC" before I got this Mac and didn't have to do anything. Just "Plug & Play". I don't think you have to format those sticks before use anyway, do you? (I never had one! )

edit: now that I think about it, an external HD is not a memory stick or "pen drive" so who am I to say?

It will be fine as long as it's formatted as a FAT32 (or FAT16?) drive, which it almost certainly will be.

Mac's can read NTFS volumes as well. Cannot write to them though.

You can write to NTFS volumes on a Mac with this or this.

i think CMcK meant that they cant write to NTFS drives natively.

I have no doubt he did. I was just pointing out that there are drivers to do write to NTFS volumes if you need to.
