On the same subject can someone give me some advice on setting up my LCD.

    Using Dynamic at the moment, I can vouch for the ?Disney? colours and I will turn them down in time, but in the HDMI settings section I had a play with the following options that were preset;

    Signal type: RGB
    Colour matrix: ITU601
    Dynamic range: Normal

    Changed them to

Signal type: YCbCr4:4:4 (other option YCbCr4:2:2)
    Colour matrix: ITU709
    Dynamic range: Enhanced

The only difference I ?think? I have noticed is that on COD4 I can now see some colour banding on the title screen and the mission introductions, it?s as if I?m viewing a photo shot in 65k colours on a computer set to millions of colours ? if that makes sense.

I know it?s all down to personal preference but is it advisable to use the settings I changed them too or not, or in other words am I correct in my assumption that in order to see more available detail I need to have the above settings.

    Thanks.

Change that Dynamic setting to Standard for starters, and change Dynamic Range back to normal. There's no need to fiddle with the signal if it's coming in through HDMI - you want your TV to present it as closely to what's being fed in as it possibly can. It's all explained in Lyris's link above

Wow! I've recently been struggling to get my head around all of those settings on my new Samsung and that is exactly the sort of guide that I've needed.

          Ta very much Lyris!

First up advice would be to ditch the crap cables and dodgy farmer box. No point having a great screen if you ruin it with poor connections.

The washed out thing was fixed. Whether it affected you was down to what type of signal the TV was expecting over its VGA input, which you can now toggle in the dashboard

My friend recently got a LE32R87BDX for his 360 and I like the fact that Samsung have added many features compared to their earlier ranges, I have an LE32R41BD, like backlight control and being able to turn DNIe off, but upon connecting the 360 via component and 720p and turning off as much processing as possible it's still a sharp and grainy image compared to component through mine. I prefer the 360 in VGA on mine anyway and will source some settings for him to try, but for a new TV I was disappointed with the how the 360 looked. Maybe it will settle down as the TV beds in.

I agree. Samsung really cleaned up their act in this regard and did their LCD research justice.

Neither Component or VGA (you said Component twice ) should look excessively noisy on system menus. If you have anything other than a trace of background noise, something's wrong.

360 over VGA on my M86/87 is very crisp - I had to turn on HTPC mode to get some colour depth. Part of me kinda wants an Elite for some HDMI digitalness - does it have better colour reproduction I wonder though.

You'll have control over the colour so you can make it as colourful as you like, I don't have a problem with VGA on my TV, especially since they allowed the black levels to change.

                        Great adivce thanks.

Have taken the advice and the picture is better - it seems brighter than dynamic even though the settings aren't as high, probably due to me turning the 'black' setting off.

Not that anyone cares, but I took some steps over the weekend. I bought a VGA cable (couldn't find an official one for blood nor money oddly) and used the setup guide from AVforums and the calibration image they have there. 1360 x 768 looks very pretty indeed.

I just need a good, not too expensive 5.1 setup to replace my flooded one now. I can wait, probably.

I tried a third party VGA cable and then the Microsoft one. The Microsoft one perfoms miles better and eliminated all ghosting from text etc.

Game sell them. Needless to say, don't buy Game's branded version of the cable...if naff.

Now see, you've got me wanting to buy that now, and I really can't afford it....
