    NES Top Loader Help

Hi there, I got a top loading NES a little while ago, and I'm wondering what I'd need to get it working here. I've heard that you can hook it up to an American VCR to convert it to composite, but I don't really want to import one. I've also seen some mods to the console which will give it a composite out, but I don't really understand it. I also assume I'll need a step down converter, right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

All you'll need is a stepdown. You can plug the console into your TV using either standard RF or composite, or if your TV doesn't have composite sockets, by using one of those SCART adaptors that come bundled with most Euro consoles. In fact I'm pretty sure you can even just use standard RF sockets with a US NES.

If you're looking for a cheap low-wattage stepdown just for your NES then Maplins have a couple of good ones on their website.

Problem is it doesn't have composite output, only RF, and I don't know if my TV displays it.

Yeah top loaders are RF only and 99.9% of TVs in the UK can't handle NTSC through RF. You can try running it through your VCR, it might be able to handle it (and then run the VCR into your TV via RGB).

If you've got soldering skibills, have a look here

As above, yeah you've gonna have to mod it now.

Yeah, I saw that. It's a little confusing though, he doesn't explain what you are supposed to do once you have soldered the wires. How do you get the wires into an AV cable?

Also, if anyone knows anyone here who can mod the console for me, I'll gladly send it to them with some cash.
