A friend of mine wants to get a chipped Xbox...

But he gave this point right here...

I get a modded xbox right, and when halo2 comes out, I buy the US version of that. But I've heard before that when you wanna play Xbox live, you need to flick the switch back to PAL becoz it doesnt let u play in NTSC, So what happens if I want to play my Halo2 online with xbox live?
    Any answers?

    Cheers.

It might work if you change the native region of the Xbox to US, so that it'll boot a US copy of Halo 2 with the chip disabled - which should let you play on Live as well. Don't hold me to that though, I don't know much about Live.

I think you would have to flash the xbox bios for that to work.

Needless to say i could be wrong !

You can use an app called Config Magic Final to change the region (among other things ).

Yeah i remember that but does it work with switch off, certinally my chip did not let this work as it had its own bios and when switched off it went back to the ns bios.

Any change made in software would be voided as soon as chip is off. Im sure the detection in live would pick up a config change on the msbios ? Some people swear that they have been kicked of live with their switches off (i do not see how myself)

Im going on the chip i used to have, so maybe the newer chips do things mine could not !

Hey guys. I'm "The Friend" that 007 is talking about.

I don't wanna get into changing the BIOS or anything mental like that. I guess it ain't gonna work without getting really serious about it. Just curious if it would work at all with a plain modded Xbox with no more hassle.

              Cheers for the help anyway.

Mmm, a lot of speculation here

Config Magic Final is used for editing the Xbox's EEPROM (similar to the way the PAL/NTSC switcher works), not for flashing the BIOS.

Even if that's true, it could be down to anything - for example, ever heard of the problem where the chip is switched off, the LED is off, yet the chip remains active? I've seen it myself.

Don't forget that some (most? all?) live games have been multiregion, maybe Halo 2 will be multiregion too. Big risk to take though. Changing the internal region of your xbox is not that much of a bigger deal than switching between pal and ntsc, something which I do quite often, so it's not that much of a risk anyway..
