Access PS2 memory card on a PC

    ok here's the deal:

i have a modded ps2 (o2mod) with a dead dvd drive. i use the hdd for playing games off, and the o2mod supports devolution, so it boots the hdloader from the memory card.

problem is i got guitar hero yesterday, brought the ps2 outta the attic and completely forgot i let my little bro take my mem card with him to egypt until early february

the o2mod has room on the flash for the hdloader but it's slower than the mem card so i didn't bother flashing it with that (kicking myself now though!).

so, i need to know if there's an easy way to read a ps2 memory card on a pc (via an adaptor of some sort). i don't have access to a modded ps2 (none of my local mates have one) so i can't simply get one and ftp to it which would be the obvious solution.

i thought about that ps3 mem card adaptor but i can't find any info on the net as to whether it works on the pc or not, and i doubt my ps3 will let me just copy the necessary elf files from the card reader to the mem card if i was to get this adaptor.

cheers in advance. i'm anxious to sort this out so any (genuine) advice would be much appreciated,

Sure Datel made such a device, was around the time Gran Turismo 3 saves and replays where being banded about. You looked on ebay ?

yeah, no idea what to look for though. heard about some sharkport thingy but it's old, and also it only works for savegames, not just regular files.

i'd imagine datel's stuff would have this same limitation. i might be able to borrow a mate's chipped ps2 so i could just execftps the stuff across...

Sharkport sounds about right (think that may have been the USA version ?), I'm not clued up on PS2 & FTP'ing so will wish you good luck and dip out now.

Suppose it's too obvious to ask that you can't plug a normal USB stick into the PS2 and do it all that way.

I've experimented with these things before, I copied a file from my memory card to a USB stick using a PS2 file browser that someone had homebrewed.

Edit. You dvd drive doesn't work. sorry

How dead is the DVD drive?

Often when they die they will read either CDs OR Dvds. Does neither work?

nope completely knackered. it happened during chipping, not sure if it was a blown fuse or what, as i had to keep opening/closing the ps2 to check the chip was working. reason i think it could be a fuse is the laser light doesn't come on at all now.

the ps2's drive was on the way out anyway (i got it for free), but lasted long enough for me to flash the chip and run the ftp prog to access the memory card.

i'm bored (and also a bit ill so dunno if i really should) so i'm gonna crack the ps2 open and poke at the fuses to see if they're alive or not. it'd make my weekend if i could get that drive up and running again!

well after poking at fuses i found a dead one (PS13) which i just bridged (i know, i know, but it's only temporary) and it was the reason the discs weren't spinning at all. while i thought it was my lucky break, the lens still doesn't read anything. fiddling with the pots and the hexagonal white plastic spacers, i got a mixture of results from spinning up the disc and then stopping, to spinning at super full speed which was a bit scary

i can't be bothered buying a new lens for it. maybe i'll just sell it off and buy a new chipped one...
