NTSC wii on uk HDTV (without NTSC 3.58 support) over component

I have a question with regards to using an NTSC wii. I'm considering buying either a US or Japanese wii for Smash bros brawl, and I would like some help regarding this, i haven't been able to confirm if the following are true from the threads i have searched but if it has been asked already i apologize.

    1) I have a samsung 23inch 23LER8 HDTV which i currently use with component on my Pal wii. I contacted samsung and they say it only supports NTSC4.43 and does not support NTSC3.58 over any input. Does this mean I cannot get full colour on an NTSC wii even if connect it via component or will i still get a 480p colour picture on my tv?

    2) With regards to online play. I heard that the wii determines your region from the region the wii is bought in. For the most part i don't care about this anyway, but what about games that have regional match making? If I have a japanese wii in the uk, and choose the quick match setup in a game, will it foolishly try to connect me to japanese gamers in my 'region' because this will REALLY suck for online play and may cause me to get an american wii instead.

    Thanks for any reply.

    1) It's very unlikely your TV being so new won't support both versions of NTSC anyway, but connecting using component will solve that problem.

    2) It really does depend on the game, there aren't many online ones but the Mario Soccer one won't let you play against anyone outside the region of your console (it won't even let you play a friend) I think

I thought that it would be unlikely it wouldn't support both versions of NTSC, since i bought this tv just a few months ago, but an email from the technical dept of samsung says it does not support NTSC 3.58 at all.

But you are saying if I use component then it would not be an issue even if it doesn't right? The LE series is quite popular so if anyone here has tried to use an NTSC wii over component on any of the uk samsung LE models i would be grateful to know how things worked out.

I'm pretty sure that 480p/576p are independant standards of their own and NTSC/PAL doens't even come into the equation.

I've got the 27 incher and the picture from my NTSC Wii @ 480p looks pretty damn good to me...

The online region doobrie depends on the game. They stupidly made Mario Strikers regionalised, even down to the friends codes, and I really hope they don't do that for Smash Bros. So as I have a US Wii and a US copy of the game, I could only play against Americans.

Thats the one reason i'm thinking of holding out and getting a american instead of japanese wii.

I will end up getting a pal copy of smash in any case, whenever it is released here in the uk so even if they do screw up the online regional thing i will be able to play online properly when it is out in europe... they better at least enable friends codes with anyone anywhere in the world... so i can at least directly play with US gamers when it is released there or other uk importers who might have US wii's... surely they can't be a stupid as the geniuses who made mario strikers region locked EVEN with friends codes ... it was a ****e game anyway... so that might explain their ****e decisions.

I've got a Japanese Wii (am in UK). Guess these answers will be solved next week!

                      TV no issue IMO.

Games always match you up to the region of the game. Personally I think you'd be a fool to get a Jap Wii unless you are fluent in Japanese.

For a US Wii go to Videogamesplus .com - they'll they'll you out if it develops a fault and will help it to dodge Customs!

Right you are, "NTSC" and "PAL" don't exist beyond Composite or S-Video. Component video and RGB video do away with NTSC and PAL colour coding altogether, but are "backwards compatible" with the 525/60hz and 625/50hz line counts and refresh rates that they used.

                        So - you'll be fine.

Why do you want it in Japanese - American Wii is a better bet, and stress free (apart from playing against American brats)

Suppose ill ask here since its semi related. Got a PAL wii with this screen over componant but whenever I try and run any VC game outside of a N64 one (so NES/Mega drive/SNES being the major ones), it just tells me it cant support the resolution. I tried to gix on the VC thread but it doesnt help sadly.

Is there another way round this issue? Does getting a US or JPN wii fix this issue?
