    Quick HD question

    Hi there,

I'm just wondering, on a HDTV that's around 30-40 inches, is there really a difference between 720p and 1080p? Is it worth getting a TV that size that does display 1080 over 720? Cheers.

At the lower end I cannot see 1080p being noticeably better looking than 720p. But at 40" and over I would want a 1080p TV.
Also you have to take into consideration how far away from the television you are going to be sitting. Quite close and you might be able to resolve more detail from 1080p source. Further back I'd think it would be hard to tell.
All IMHO of course. I personally wouldn't buy a non 1080p set now.

If I was looking at buying a new set I'd go 1080p. mainly because I'm quite into watching HD films (which are 1080p)

If you don't have any desire to watch Blu-Ray/HD-DVD then a 720p one for gaming will me more than adequate as that is the gaming standard.

        1080p

Dont shoot the messenger but I saw a long thread over at the AVForums about these greek AV Nuts. They apparently setup about 6 projectors, properly calibrated them, half were 720P & half 1080P, they stood back at the usual distance sat (1.5 x the screen width) and none of them could notice any difference in detail levels.

I firmly believe that resolution is only about 4th in a list of the most important ingredients for a good picture, more important for me would be :

        1) contrast
        2) viewing environment
        3) accurate colours

Make sure your new telly/PJ has a good spec for the above & dont worry so much about the pixels. Oh and get one with 24fps playback for judder free panning!
