Where do old video tapes go to die?

As part of my massive eBay purge, I've decided to clear out our attic. Amongst other things are box upon box of video tapes. Mostly films and TV series, what on earth can I do with them? Do they have any value at all, or should I just accept the obvious fate and bin the lot?

    Any ideas?!

Wife tried flogging load of ours at a boot-fair last summer, was a struggle knocking them out at 20p a piece. Disney films/Kids TV shows will have some value, but others are virtually worthless especially by the time you add on postage/ebay fees etc.

Charity shop would be my suggestion.

Yeah, I thought a charity shop would be the most sensible, I'll phone a couple to see if they want them as there's literally going to be boxes and boxes of them. No point with eBay due to P&P and listing fees.

No one will buy any Videos on eBay. 20p Video and then atleast ?1 postage.

You could list as a job lot on eBay collection only. Or if you have any music/anime videos the Tape and Record exchange may buy them off you.

Ended up throwing away some of my old VHS. Unless you have some rare concert footage or out of print/ unlicensed stuff, they're almost worthless.

I've come across a few charity shops that have stopped accepting Videos, as no-one wants them at all. Most of mine went to landfill.

Mine all went to the charity shop as well.

I think the charity shops are sending them off to Africa to build houses out of.

Before you chuck anything, just be totally sure there's nothing rare in there. Don't assume the rights holders can look after their content...

^Listen to Lyris. Common vids are worth nothing but there's lots of stuff on VHS (even certificated) that isn't out on DVD and is worth a bomb, or at least £8+. Just go into the VHS section, then click on 'Highest price first' to see what people are paying big bucks for. I've had some very old vids ('Death In Haiti', 'Terror') go for £80 upwards, but I was lucky to get them for sod all.

I mean, there's stuff like the Disney flick 'Song Of The South' (that has a tendency to turn up in charity shops) that always hovers around the £20 mark, and it's a pretty recent release.

Anything that seems obscure, keep a hold on it and keep a close eye on the Bay.
