    Sony KDL-26U3000 display problem

I bought one of these a few weeks ago, been pretty happy with it up until a few days ago. The problem being, that the symbol that displays in the top-left corner to show what input is being used (e.g. TV, PC, AV1, AV2 etc), which should disappear after a few seconds, now remains permanently on.

I can't find any way of making it go away - have looked through all the menus and options I can find, and scoured the manual, to no avail. I even reset the display settings, but it didn't help!

Most irritating as I don't want "AV2" stuck in the corner of the screen all the while I'm watching a film or something. Plus it also means I can't see how many lives I have left in Saturn Bomberman ...

Anyone got one of these and can help - or can offer a suggestion?

There's a specific button on the remote that will remove it, one of the ones near the circle d-pad thing.

Hmm, I thought I had tried pretty much every button on the remote. I'll give it another go though.

Nup, tried all the buttons by the circle d-pad thingy. The symbol disappears when you bring up any of the menus, but it always appears again as soon as you exit the menu. The only buttons by the d-pad are the Digital Programme Guide button, the input selection button, the Tools button and the 'Return' button.

you need to hit the info "i" button, that toggles it between no OSD, the one you have stuck on now, and the time.

Aha! Brilliant. I am sure I tried that button last night but it just said "Feature unavailable". Perhaps I was hallucinating or something. Anyway, problem solved. I owe ya one!

I have no idea why, but this is the BRAVIA question I see get asked the most. Countless people have been confused by it.

Possibly because it is not at all clear in the instruction manual? Nor is it immediately obvious what a button marked "i+ ?" should actually do ...

it's confusing if you can't work out how to turn it off but I do like that it tells you what resolution its receiving, and the symbol for AV will tell you if it's RGB or composite out of scart and stuff, handy to have.

The manuals, I thought most people were like me and didn't bother reading them

Yes, "I+" isn't very descriptive. You can thank Sony Europe (understandably) wanting to avoid putting actual words on the remote for that one...
