32" LCD for my in laws!

I'm been "Tasked" with buying a new TV for the in laws.

I took them to the shop on Saturday, and they liked the picture on a TV called: "SHARP LC32RD2E"

They will only ever use the TV for normal viewing, and perhaps upscaled DVD.

I felt the sharp was really nice, but expensive! kr12,000 (1100 GBP) and I saw the Sony was only kr9000 (800 GBP) and seemed a good picture.

Does anyone have any advice for a 32inch TV for about a grand?

I think I'll go for the Sony instead.

      It's 925 quid and called KDL32D2710K

      Seems Ok.

      Any thoughts?

Sharp do some SD Pal optimised 32 inch screens (P70 series) which I imagine to be pretty cheap due to then having a lower resolution than HD sets, might be worth looking into.

Stupid question perhaps, but when you took them to the shop to view that Sharp set, you did make sure that the TV wasn't set up to a HD box at the time didn't you?

Toshiba do some really good 32"ers for around 500-600 quid (not sure what that is in KR though). Have a look at the WLT range. Probably not ideal for viewing at angles and they don't seem to do blacks brilliantly, but those are only what I'd consider minor issues.

They can be had for bargain prices now and they are fantastic sets.
32WLT68 is what I use for my gaming , the viewing angle isn't as bad as has been made out, but it's not a problem if you sit in front of you tv

It also has some of the best scaling out that I have seen, which makes normal TV very tolerable

I'm using the same as Boris (in fact it was him that finally twisted my arm to get it) and hihgly recommend it. You can't go wrong with for ?500-600.
