Wich version of Space Channel 5?

    Hi,

I want to buy Space Channel 5 but I have to choose between the Dreamcast version (PAL or US) or the PS2 version (PAL). Are there any differences between them?

No difference but its spiritual home is the DC.

whichever is cheaper / in better nick, depending on which you are biased towards.

        Thanks for the replies.

The Dreamcast version it is, then 8)

Now I just have to choose between the PAL and US version. Should I get the PAL version for five euro more or get the US version and swap discs every time.

But I won't bother you with that

I guess that depends of your patience to swap discs. (kidding )

I'm almost sure that you can get a PAL60 option from the PAL version, like almost Dreamcast games have.

Yes, Pal DC SC5 has the 60 Hz option

On a technical note. The PS2 version runs at 60fps for the most part, and the DC only runs at 30. Same situation as Rez. The PS2 looks a little smoother most of the time, but no VGA output.

With a game like space channel 5 though, you don't really need 60fps in order to play.

Thats true for Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Rez, but probably not the original Space Channel 5.

Space Channel 5 might well run at 60fps on a DC anyway, theres not much work for the DC to do. Otherwise they would have to re-render the movies at a higher frame rate, or perhaps just run the polys at a higher frame rate.

Either way, as you point out, it doesn't really matter

Which brings us to a more interesting point - Derek why don't you buy Part 2 instead?

It looks a lot nicer without the pre-rendered footage used in the first game. Part 2 has all the environments rendered on the fly, Part 1 used streaming video and renders just the characters on top instead.

Yeah, I was also thinking about buying part 2 for PS2 today. The problem is that I haven't played Space Channel 5 before so I don't know if I will like ot or not. Maybe I just wait for part 2 to drop in price because I'm also getting Frequency wich has sort of the same gameplay.

But part 2 is much much better you say? So there isn't a reason to get both.

I'd seriously think about getting both if poss.

For the sake of having Part 2 in English you may aswell get both ps2 pal versions, which are pretty cheap.

Buy Part 2 first though for sure, its technically more accomplished.

I have jpn DC part 1 and 2, pal DC part 1, and pal ps2 part 2. I have to say I prefer the DC versions, but there isn't a lot in it.

btw the gameplay in Frequency is very different to sc5.

Part 2 is great, the gameplay remains almost the same but the tunes are more diverse, but both are really enjoyable and worth buying.

                        Ok, thanks.

I'll get part 2 for PS2 then. And if I like it a lot I'll probably get part 1 also.
