    20GB PS3 & Wireless

So yeah, I have a 20GB PS3 which is hooked up to my router, so online play is fine.

However, I'm gonna be swapping rooms soon which means I'll be on the oter side of the house and I can't have cables trailing all over the place.

Will one of the Linksys wireless gaming adaptors work with it or is there any other way I can hook it up, via my PC which is wireless?

    Have you seen Homeplugs?

    Could be an option.

      I thought the 20gig ps3 doesn't have wireless capabilities?

So do those Homeplugs work then? Anyone had any experience with them?

i use the 200mbs homeplugs (the expensive ones, about £45 each i think) on my ps3 as gave up getting the wireless to work.

they are great, piece of pi$$ to set up and have the bandwidth to stream video no probs.

Seen some on ebay and have the spare cash in my Paypal account, so may have to buy them. £45 for 2 85mbs ones sound a good deal?

Before I buy these, would it make a difference if it was run through a multi socket adaptor, as the ones in my room are only single socket.

As the French might say, Le Bump!

I'm in a similar position now with my PS3 - homeplugs seem to be the answer but like Famid00d mine would need to plugged into the extension sockets. Does this cause any real problems?

It is supposed to be bad but in my experience, I have 2 cheap 200mb plugs both into a 4 way and 6 way gang and they work fine.

Madcatz are doing some kind of device that adds Wireless N via the Ethernet port.

The best homeplugs seem to be the Linksys Powerline ones. They do 200mbs if you buy the right model. NB Remember that the homeplug AV goons don't talk about full duplex, so it's max 100mbs EACH WAY. (in case anyone cares)

The PLK300 pack gets you two boxes, one with 4 ports, so you have the possibility to connect Xbox360, PS3, WII etc on one end, and then the Boradband router on the other.

Please note though that you loose a huge amount of speed when moving between ring mains.

In my old (modern) house it was basically two main rings. I got 100mbs on all kit upstairs, reduced to 50mbs downstairs.

In my new (old) house It is far worse anything from 20-50mbs between rooms. Totally fine for games/hosting/web but no good for 1080p streaming from the QNAP.

If at all possible buy from a shop you can return them if the performance is poor.

On the same ringmain they are quite amazing, and a tremendous but of kit.

Final point, these bits of kit run HOT HOT HOT! Of the three i've seen and tested the Linksys was coolest, but still pretty damn hot...

Thanks for confirming. I've read some accounts on other places on the internet but it's nice to have it confirmed by someone on here as opposed to some random web forum.

Interesting. Had a quick scout around - looks like a pretty simple Wireless N bridge (which, at this point, is still a consideration for a solution to all this). Seems to be reasonably priced as well for an N compliant bridge.

I don't think I'll be using it for HD streaming for the foreseeable future so ultimately the top ends speeds needed shouldn't be a factor (then again I said when I bought the PS3 that the lack of wireless wouldn't be an issue, and look where that's ended up ). As long as I can get the old girl online and download and play stuff I'll be fine.

That Linksys looks good but it seems to be like rocking horse crap in the UK at the moment.

And thanks for the warning on the temp of the homeplugs. Didn't know about that and it's always something to bare in mind. Because they'll be used on the PS3 (which doesn't get much game time at the moment) it shouldn't be too much of a problem if I disconnect them when need be.

Got a mac mini hooked up using cheapo variants of homeplugs. In a 4 way adapter and the one on the other end is actually on a different ring main and it still works fine!

Went for some homeplugs in the end - I'm amazed at how well these things work. It's almost like Voodoo or something!

Ended up plugging one of them into a 10 gang adapter and it all works just fine - PS3 and 360 both connected in no time. I think I might even buy another one and scrap the wireless setup for my PC

The one downside though - the set I bought seem to have the worlds brightest blue LED's. If I'd known I would have bothered with the Xmas decorations this year

                              Thanks for the assistance fellas.
