Japanese Ceramic White PS3, do I need a stepdown adapter?

I have read somewhere that 40GB models would output 110/240V but I want to double-check.

To be more precise, I'm talking about a Japanese Ceramic White PS3. Some importers seem to have different voltage for JPN and Asia versions.

And if it indeed does support multivoltage, why are people suggesting a kettle cord with 3 or 5 amp fuse? How do they differ from lets say 16 amp cord that I can find from a nearby store?

I don't see why it would be any different to the other models, all of which have an auto-sensing PSU and can be plugged into an outlet in any region given the right plug. With regards to the ampage, as long as it allows enough to power the console through (I use 5a) then that's what you should go for - if the fuse lets too much through there's is the possibility of damaging the PSU.

Hmm, just checked my PAL PS3 and the kettle cord says it has a 16 amp fuse. Just like everything else (X360, PC, etc.).

Is there some specific reason for an import PS3 to have this 5 amp fuse within the kettle cord? Seems weird that people are so unsecure with their PS3 when other equipments come with a higher amp fuse by default.

Can't find a kettle cord with a lower amp fuse here in Finland anyway. Everything seems to be 16A.

Perhaps there are differences between the regions then. The only things that come with a large (13a) fuse in the UK typically are devices that draw heat. And I would imagine that people are extra careful with the PS3 because the PSU is built in - if it fries you're looking at replacing the console, whereas if the same happens to the 360 one for example you can just replace the brick.

It isn't just import PS3 owners who use 5 amp fuses....I've just checked my UK (40gb) PS3 and the kettle lead Sony supplied with it is also fitted with a 5 amp fuse.

Sounds more like a regional thing as Number45 suggests.

Yep, here in Finland we don't have seperate fuses in cettle cords. Explains a lot, thanks.
