360 controllers cutting out?

Wondered if anyone can help. Have a 360 elite and recently when running a few titles keep getting a 'controller disconnected' error when playing. I have changed batteries and have recently upgraded to a play and charge kit which I thought would solve the problem - alas it hasn't. It doesn't happen that often just every 30 minutes or so which is enough to make it intrusive. Wondered if my batteries are just running down ultra quickly or there's another prob??

Does this mean we are gonna see a pad red ring now?
Mine did that with the plug and charge pack - give the contacts on the back a little scratch with a pin or something and make sure the pack is in nice and snug.
