    Dreamcast on HDTV problem.

For some strange reason when I run my DC though scart lead on my HDTV the picture is not in the center, it changes everytime I turn it on.

It works fine though a normal aireal, but not with the scart, why?

You have a Samsung screen as well? I got the same problem until I got a vga lead.
    Have a hunt on ebay.

It's something to do with a resistor in the scart cable that enables auto centering I think.

Maybe try getting another scart cable, as it may be missing it

Do you mean not in the centre as in slightly off, or way off? RGB over SCART always seemed to have this problem. Sony CRTs (and even some of the cheaper LCDs) have an "RGB Centre" option for this very purpose...

yes, it's called RGB shift or summat, isn't it? Tosh CRTs and one Panny I had allowed for RGB correction too.

Nightmare! can you not take your tv back to the shop where you bought it to see if they fix it.

My freind had a similar problem on a CRT and took it back to the shop and they fixed it for him. He had only just bought it so he had his receipt.

Yes it's a well known problem with RGB SCART - I always heard it referred to as SCART shift. I've read that it's something to do with the sync signal being out of phase. No idea if that is correct or if it can be corrected by playing around with the SCART plug resistor.

Some TVs auto correct it or, due to overscan and the TV surround, particularly on CRTs, people just don't notice. I've always hated it - I can take top and bottom borders but unequal side borders make me angry.

Games with picture centring options (which should always be provided IMO) sometimes allow you to equalise borders as the actual image field is sometimes larger than the picture area. Otherwise the only solution I know (and use) is to go into the TV's service menu.

Get the VGA cable for the DC. The picture is so much better on a HDTV with the right cable.

I asked about RGB SCART shift on another, more specialist, forum and was provided with this rather good link for those of a more enquiring technical mind about this matter and related issues:-
