    upgrade wireless g to n?

i currently have a G/A router but it has rather crappy range and even fails to stream videos to my macbook in my room.

so, i was thinking of upgrading my router to the new apple time capsule which has wireless N.

Given that my macbook only has a G built in adaptor, will my macbook see a performance increase or will i have to get a USB N adaptor?

    cheers!

You'll only get 54mbps outta your current adapter unless you upgrade.
I'd say get yourself a decent router with lots of antennas on it and boost the range/signal then try that with you Mac and see if it's better.

I've actually had trouble setting up N routers to G laptops, don't know for sure why but to get it working I have to put the N routers to output standard G. So it's pointless really. Get a N USB for that laptop if it's that bad.

I purchased the Netgear DG834N ( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/113431 ) earlier this week and it connects to everything I have thrown at it with no trouble.
It has gone up by £15 since I bought it on Monday though O_O

It has improved the connection range over my previous DG834G by a good margin.

N to G is only half the speed, get a N adapter for the laptop and you'll get twice the throughput.

BTW in my experience Netgear are the best routers for home users. I'd avoid Belkin.
