Can anyone recommend me the best N64 Emulator?

Its been along time since ive used one. I don't know what currently is the best one available and with all this talk of hi-res goldeneye for live arcade, its really made me want to give it awhirl again. So can anyone give me a recommendation?

Check out Project 64 (v1.6 is the latest public release).

It's head & shoulders above anything else out there & has run everything I've thrown at it pretty much perfectly. The games look absolutely superb at higher resolutions!

Doesn't project64 include 3 different emus? If the default one doesn't work with your game, then select a different one at the relevant screen. Which game?

It's one emulator but with different plugins for sound / graphics / controller. As charlesr says, fiddle around with the plugins - go to Options > Settings - and you should be able to get it working. If not, the problem might be with the age or speed of your computer setup (I could never get it to run successfully on my old PC).

          FWIW, I use Jabo's Direct Sound 1.6 (audio), Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6 (graphics) and NRage's Direct Input V2 1.80a (controller).

ah sorry, I'm confusing it with the one on my Xbox. I've got project64 on the PC.

Pretty sure I'm using the same plug-ins as Gordon and not had any sound issues.

It is a bit more technically 'demanding' than some of the other emus so it could be your pc. For reference I use a fairly antiquated pc for my emu's (512mb ram, P4 2.4ghz, a v. old 128mb PCI (not express) gfx card) and it performs fine - I run @1024 x768 res w/ some graphical effects running and everything runs very smoothly.

What game is it you're having probs with?

edit: just in case you got PJ64 elsewhere here's a link to the FAQS page of the 'official' PJ64 site which may be of help:

                Project 64s? great.

They?re even trying to implement widescreen support in the next update.

                  Hadn't realised that!

I've got the beta version of 1.7 on my pc but not really used it for a while. Will need to d/l any updates and see how well the widescreen works.
