Going to buy a PS3 - got any game recommendations?

What's the deal with backwards compatibility on the PS3? I'd quite like to play Shadow of the Colossus as I've never played that before?

If you get a 40GB PS3 (the only one currently available in UK shops) then you can count PS2 backwards compatibility totally out. They removed all required hardware from this model to cut costs.

If you pick up a uk 60GB model from somewhere then you will be able to play some ps2 games. Backwards compatibility is achieved through both hardware and software emulation so a lot of games don't work but some do. Bollocks. Thanks for the info though. I vaguely remember reading about all of this which is why I brought it up, but I didn't realise they'd taken out all compatibility from the new console. That's a bit of a PITA.

Still, at least my HDMI card showed up so I can play with that this weekend....

Looks like in amongst the usual stupidly-priced ones on eBay there's a few which are reasonably priced, so I'll keep an eye on that today.
