Region Free DVD on PS3 via Linux?

Does anyone know if I can play PAL DVDs on my USA PS3 via Linux?

The upscaling is pretty impressive, and my 360 Elite is too loud, so I'd quite like to be able to use my local DVD's too,

I had a region free boot disk on the PS2, but haven't seen one for the PS3.

Anyone know?

If you were running Linux, the deinterlacing and scaling would be done by the playback software, rather than Sony's own methods. So you'd lose the advantage anyway.
