NAT Settings on Xbox 360 Query

Just recently I've noticed that whilst playing PES 2008 on XBL I've started to get a message saying that my NAT settings are set to strict / moderate and that therefore I my have problems connecting to other players. This message has only recently started to appear. However, I've checked my NAT through the network connetion test, and this suggests that NAT is 'Open'.

Anyway, since this problem has manifested itself, I've since noticed that other odd things seem to be happening. An example would be after an online match has finished, it takes anywhere between 15 and 30 seconds for the update to the rankings to appear. ON some occasions the rankings don't update at all. Now I don't know if this is related to the NAT problem, or whether it is to do with the general poor performance of PES 2008 online. Perhaps someone could advise. Also, is there anyway for me to verify what my NAT settings are given that the network test is telling me one thing, whilst the game is telling me something completely different. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I`d check the setting within the router itself to begin. Check the instruction book or search the t`internet for the routers IP and enter it into the web browser on your PC. It`ll be summat like 192.168.2.1. From here I`d disable the NAT and run the game again to see what happens.

Try it and post up again with teh results.

Disabling the NAT will feck it up. I wouldn't do that, that will disable the ability for more than 1 machine to connect to the router at once.

First of all I'd have a look through your router's settings and see if UPNP (Universal Plug and PLay) is enabled
If turning it on doesn't get it to "OPEN" following a port forwarding guide on www.portforward.com

Proper port forwarding is the better option to be honest.

UNPnP is enabled. It's actually been a while since I logged into my router, but I have noticed that all the ports that I forwarded for limewire / utorrent. all appear to have disappeared.
WOuld you know which ports I would need to forward to the router for the 360 / protocols, etc?

          I think it's ports 3074 TCP and port 88 UDP/TCP
You could just put your 360 in the DMZ , which opens all the ports for it.

You'll have to put your 360 as a static IP though in the system blade.

Did Bungie/Microsoft not do some good guides to configuring various routers for best performance under Live round about the time of Halo 3 release? Might be worth a quick google.

They told you what you needed to do , but not specific things for specific routers.

It also might be worth seeing if your routers firmware is all upto date.

Cheers mate. I'll give that a try later on. By the way, are you the same EvilBoris from the Gamecube Import Invasion boards?

All i do if it helps is set the IP of my 360/PS3/DS etc in the DMZ of my router config so it's open to everything. They aren't on at the same time together so it works great and hey, nobodies going to 'hack' your games console

You'll have to forgive my ignorance, but how do you set up the IP address in the way you've described?

The very same, although that was a very long time ago!

Depends on your router - have a nose through the manual then login to the web interface of it and set it - there should be a DMZ section...though it can be called other things on some routers. I just put the local IP of my consoles which are all 192.168.1.50 so basically anything at all from the internet hits the router then hits that IP which is whatever is on at the time.

If you're still unsure let me know which router you've got and i'll see if I can help.

Unfortunately I didn't get a manual with the router. I've also had a look through the router interface and there aren't any obvious headings. The router is netgear DG834G. I'll have a look myself to see if I can find anything, but it you can help that woud be geatl;y apreciated!

Found it. I've assigned a static IP address to the Xbox and have set the same address up as the default DMZ server.

I no longer see the message when playing PES, however still notice an excessive amount of time between the end of an online match and the ranking update screen. I'll have to assume the latter is something to do with the general performance of this new version online.

                            Thanks for the help guys!
