I have the space for one more on my rack. Suggestions please. Bear in mind that the game must be Japanese.

I'd echo Gradius V - it's the best shooter on the system. Or Mushihimesama, DoDonPachi Daioujou, or Espgaluda...

Guilty Gear XX #Reload. Although this has recently just been beaten with Accent Core, get that instead if you can.

Well if I was going to pick from DH's nice option's it would be between Psyvariar or a Silent hill.

I'd say Gradius V or Silent Hill 2. Gradius V looks gash on a HDTV, mind.

I'm not really a fan of verts, and I think I'm OK with R-type and the Slugs.
I think I've got the fighters covered with all of the SFs too.
Rez and Sky Gunner take care of 3-D shooters also.
Silent Hill is beaten (for me) by Biohazard 4 and DMC3.

I should have mentioned that I run all of these on a PS3, so I also have games for that, which eliminates the GT games.
Ideally I'm looking for something a little different to the style of games I already have. Something a bit far out maybe.

How about puzzle games? Bombastic and Detonator are unusual. Gregory Horror Show often gets mentioned, with good reason, because it's fun and different. Then there's Flipnic (pinball) and Fantavision - a firework 'em up-cum-puzzler .

Any of the ace combat games. If your lucky you can pick up the asian versions as cheap as a fiver. Ace Combat 5 being my fav. Its totally different to everything else you have mentioned. They are also in english.

Gregory Horror Show is a little bit different to, well, everything, and it's also full of win and awesome. It won't make much sense in Japanese mind, but I suppose that's the price you pay for unbridled elitism.

Freak Out (JPN title Stretch Panic) by Treasure is likewise full of weirdness.

I had been mulling over Ace Combat 5, seeing as I really liked 04. Is it the same game as Zero? If not should I get that or 5?

I'll take a look into this Gregory Horror Show too.

Bombastic (which I've just realised is part of the XI Sai series) is a 100% purchase for me now.

How about Meiwaku Seijin: Panic Maker (Under The Skin in the west)?

I'd go for Fantavision 2 probably. The first one had too much slowdown, and the lack of 2-up play didn't grab me.

Freak Out is Hippa Linda in JPN non?

I've never heard of Detonator (Buile Baku), so I'll have to check it out.

5 is called the Unsung War in JPN. Zero is a totally different one, its also possibly the least liked on the ps2. So go for 5
