    NTSC viewing question.......

i've just started playing my new JAP PS2 (SCPH-50000) on my TV that i bought a year ago. now i'm plugged in via the AV input in the rear of the TV and my TV displays NTSC but the picture is a grainy. i understand and know that this happens to NTSC due to less verticle lines than PAL but as you get to the edge of the screen on the left and right hand sides it gets grainier. anyone knows whats going on here? if i had a tv with component inputs would the picture display better and if so would it be noticable?

    THanks heaps

It shouldn't be THAT grainy (and that doesn't have anything to do with vertical lines of resolution), all I can suggest is checking the cable.

Chances are Component would help, yes - it'd certainly improve the picture quality in all areas.

or RGB would be an equally (if not better in some cases) good idea.

use an rgb scart lead that should improve the picture, those leads that come in the box are crap anyway.

To most extents and purposes, component is RGB. Anyway, definitely get an RGB scart cable. The picture will be super clear. Some leads are better than others, and even really cheap ones are sometimes very good. Do a search in this Q&A forum for "blaze" or "lead" or something to see if someone has mentioned it already (I think blaze and monster are meant to be good PS2 scarts, but best if someone else confirms this).

blaze ultimate scart lead or the black offical sony lead are very good. i use an old playstation rgb scart if you've got one of them try that.
