    360 drives - replace a Samsung with a Benq?

I've got an old Premium console is nice and quiet when the DVD drive isn't in use, it's got a Samsung drive in it.

Some time ago I ended up with a second Samsung drive so ended up swapping the drives over and this one is slightly quieter. Rather than messing around with hacked firmwares which I'm not interested in, or injecting drive keys etc, I simply used mtkflash to read out the firmware on my original drive and then flashed that to the replacement drive.

I haven't played the 360 for months and I've just started again but the drive noise is now really annoying me. Some people say the BenQ drive is quieter than the Samsung so I've been investigating swapping to one.

I have the correct VIA6421 card and I think I have it straight in my head how to do this, I'm hoping some of the 360 experts on here will be able to check this out to confirm if I'm right.

First of all, is this safe to do? I want to use Live, and I won't be using any hacked firmware, only a spoofed one.

    - Use dosflash16 to get the firmware off of the new BenQ
    - Use firmtool v1.2 like this: "firmtool samsung.bin benq.bin" which I believe will modify the benq.bin with the key and spoof info from the samsung.bin
    - Use dosflash16 to write this firmware back

Is this correct? firmtool looks like it's designed for hacked firmwares isn't restricted to just hacked ones. I know that Firmware Toolbox is capable of key editing and spoofing etc, but I'm sure I read somewhere that it wasn't as reliable?

    Any advice is appreciated.

Just for the benefit of anyone doing a search at a later date - I got a BenQ drive and did the above using dosflash and firmtool, it all worked and my 360 was fooled and let me play games

Thing is, either my Samsung drive isn't as noisey as some other old drives, or the BenQ I bought was a particularly noisey version as it didn't sound any quieter to me - lol, guess I have a spare drive now!
