Is there anyway to still play this online?

Is xbox Live (for xbox 1) still running?

My xbox's are Japanese and modded, so an unofficial server would be nice.

That's a coincidence Nick.I have been thinking about buying steel battalion as it's a game i have never played.Is there maybe still an online option via xlink kai ?

I'm pretty sure the game is still playable on Xbox Live, just that they closed down the official on-line campaign server's etc, you can still play skirmish ones and stuff though, not sure if any un-official campaign's have been set-up I'd guess it's unlikely..

You can only use mechs you've unlocked in campaign iirc, so you'd ideally want an xbox with a saved game on it otherwise you'd be restricted to crap ones online. That's in what I imagine to be the highly unlikely event you find anyone to play against.
