    Virus scanners/spyware running in background?

    Hey all

What is the best virus software/spyware to use?

In ways of don't hog system performance in background while playing games, nor makes games crash.
Also good enough to stop most viruses.

Do we need 2 programs? like a virus program running all time to keep safe and a spware?

Or mainly just a virus scanner?

Also, should we have a virus program running at all times, keeping us safe or just installed to scan every now and then?

    Thanks

If you're not downloading dodgy files or programs off the web all the time, and you don't use Microsoft software to do your browsing/emailing etc, then there shouldn't be any reason why you need antivirus software running on your machine all the time. They tend to slow down your machine as well.

I use Adaware, Spybot S&D and AVG Spyware and give my machine a scan with those every few months.

I use Nod32. Very unobtrusive and doesn't hammer my PC's performace

In addition, AVG Anti Virus and ZoneAlarm are sufficient for your needs.

          ohhhhhhhhh

Well I'm attending a LAN with 1800 people, in past people without virus protection at these have had their computers go down the whole event.

So kinda need it for that.

p.s Never ever use zonealarm if u wanna game.
