    Hi dannywhac,

I've pretty much put this past something that I will do without creating further issues for myself, I'm now looking at replacing the unit.

Thanks for all your input though it's been very much appreciated.

Well I thought I'd give it one more go tonight before ditching it.

Took it apart, now I have no soldering kit so this is a bit Heath Robinson inside now.

I had managed to separate the two wires that connect to the IC board. So instead of fixing them to the front of the board where access is awkward I attached them to the back of the board where their respective solder points are. I used insulating tape to hold them in place and a further bit of insulating tape further down the wires to try and ensure that the wires stayed in place. I then fed the wire out and through from the back of the IC board and reattached the connector. I think it looks tidier than before, and no chance of the repeat of how I separated them in the first place.

Fired up the machine I was back to the stage where it wouldn't read discs so I looked at the tray assembly and concentrated on that. I fiddled with the front right cog which seemed to adjust the laser height when the tray is closed. Took many attempts but I seemed to find a set up that the machine functions with.

It's by no means perfect but about 98% of the times I've tried it since reassembly it has read the disc(s) no problem. I think I'll quit while I'm ahead.

As I've no solder I am ......ahem using a piece of wire taped to the power board to jump the blown fuse.

Gonna play some 3x3 Eyes now.
