    VGA Box Multi-System-Purpose-Thingys.

Space is starting to become a massive issue at my apartment (and even more so when I move soon).

As I play my Dreamcast on a regular basis through my VGA monitor (which looks rather awesome) it got me thinking, are those multi system VGA boxes with several inputs any good?

I know it's probably a rather daft question, but I guess shouldn't expect Dreamcast-esque results from one of these, since systems like the Saturn don't output VGA quality in the first place(?).

So, my question is, does anyone here have an experience of using these things and are they worth my time?

I know, I should probably go out a buy another cheap CRT TV (my last one sadly died a few weeks ago, retry looks awful on the 50") but i'm rather short of money right now. Sadly.

EDIT: Systems i'll be looking to use with it are the Saturn, Neo Geo, PS2, Xbox and maybe one or two others. If these boxes are rubbish, any other VGA based ideas?

Got one of these off of Amazon a little while back

So I can use the DC on my pc monitor without having to change leads, works fine and only about £5

I got one of those and the ghosting was absolutely horrendous, so I sent it back. Inside it's just a mess of coiled unshielded wires.

So I then ordered this from NCSX, which is a massive improvement, though not perfect. I use it for a 360 and PC, if the PC is on it interferes with the 360 slightly (though not the other way around for some reason) so I have to set windows to turn the monitor off.

Since then I've come accross this, which I reckon could be better. Might be worth a try.

Good luck with this, it's a total nightmare.

Strange - no wires in my one, just a pcb with the plugs soldered onto it.

I had a VGA box for my cube years ago when I didn't have access to an NTSC TV and whilist it worked the picture quality was about the same level of quality I'd associate with a an LCD screen for old consoles nowadays.
I think it is the deintelacing that they can't do that great.

does the ps3 and wii work with these component to vga box things as i have a pc monitor with a spare vga input that i would like to use ?

as i could then have hd as the monitor will do 720p i think

There's a DC VGA cable which allows both DC and PC to be hooked up at the same time and switches over automatically when you turn on the DC. I actually have one, but it's buggered and needs fixing.

I have the JS technology Component to RGB scart/VGA converter. It's great, it takes an 480i signal and turns it RGB scart (should you need it) or a progressive scan component signal and turns it into VGA. As usual, it's a bit pricey, but quality is top notch (as perusual for John Sim's stuff).

                Discussed a bit here:
