A TV Console that runs PC Games? [Retro]

My friend tells me this story about a TV console that ran PC games every time I see him. It was much like any other TV games console, but it could load windows games.

I saw him today and he gave me the following info: it may have been called the "Puma" and he said it could have been made by Panasonic. This was something he read in a US games magazine some years ago (probably around the turn of the millennium.)

Google has turned up nothing very illuminating, so I thought I'd just throw it out there. God knows how they'd ever have got permission for such a thing, but it sound like an interesting curio.

    Thanks for any info.

There was the Discover and the Phantom. Dont think either of them were released for consumer use though.

And lol at your mate's Panasonic Puma. Think he's stroking his chin a bit there.

You'd need no permission for it at all unless I'm very much mistaken

Phantom it is, I think. I seem to recall him using the name in past conversations. I actually knew of the Phantom, but it must have been one of those articles I always skipped past in EDGE, as I didn't know it ran PC games.

        Thanks.

It was never released, it was just vapourware.

There have been others apart from the Phantom - I remember reading details of some other STB system in the US with which it would be possible to download and run PC games on a TV. Never reached the market as far as I'm aware.
