Thunderbird help

I've just installed this and I want to use it with my gmail account. I've done the POP settings enable in gmail, but Thunderbird will only grab mail from 2006 up to September in 2007, which is 1100 e-mails. I really don't get it, so I'd appreciate any help as I'd like to be able to read my newest messages.

Seems to be working fine now. Bit strange.

I would like to know if there is a way to "Get Mail" automatically though? Do i have to keep pressing the button to check or can I get it to do it on it's own?

There is an auto check option somewhere, where it will check every 5 minutes

Tools, account settings, server settings: then there should be a check box for "check for new messages every X minutes", just beneath check new messages at startup.
