    Chipped Wii - trouble?

My NTSC-U Wii has got a Wiikey fitted (updated to 1.9g FW).

Now, I mainly buy NTSC-U Wii games but have got a few NTSC-J games, namely No More Heros, Wii Fit and Family Ski.

Problem is, Wii Fit seems to have given me duplicate channels for news and weather , along with a Wii Fit channel. Not a big concern as I don't really use the channels, but have read that if I continue to buy NTSC-J games, my Wii could be bricked.

I did notice that I couldn't play Smash Bros Brawl correctly (it hung), had to use Freeloader on my PAL Wii .

Am I going to have trouble going forward? If so, I may stick with NTSC-U games.

You need to upgrade to firmware 1.9s to be able to play an original copy of SSBB on a system with WiiKey installed.

1.9s is great! it plays practically everything and it disables firmware updates

i highly doubt he'd get a semi-brick on a US wii with a US copy of SSB (unless i've not been paying attention).

@yesteryear, if it's semi-bricked, i'm assuming you'll just have to wait for the next software update to regain full functionality? and are you just out of dvdrs or do you not know how to burn the disc?

also thanks for the heads-up, guys, my wiikey'd pal machine is in the attic waiting for wii fit to come out here, and i'm getting shot of my japanese wii as i've no use for it, so i'm glad the wiikey's blocking game updates as it was a bit of a hassle having to dl wii fit so i could brickblock and test it on my pal wii (only to find it wouldn't work and so i had to buy a jap wii anyway which i then didn't need to chip of course)

OK, I'm going to update to 1.9s to see if it makes a difference.

Have the iso - but forgot how to pad it out to fit on a DVD.

                  Anyone tell me (on Vista).

Do I have to do the same with the Channel remover?

i'd imagine that program you use to pad it would work in vista as well?

just open the command prompt, navigate to where the files are* and type

                    filechop.exe wiikey.iso 1459978240

where wiikey.iso is the name of the wiikey update (remember to ensure it's the US update disc although from what i've gathered, all the three region isos have the same flash file anyway, and so if your wiikey is set to automatic region anyway you should be cool but just in case...)

as for channel remover, just rinse and repeat. i'd imagine padding would be needed for that, too (unless it's already massive when you unzip it). tbh, i'm not sure why the wiikey guys just don't pad the isos before zipping. they'd still zip to the same size as the padding should just be zeroes or something.

                    * if command prompt ain't your thing, bung the wiikey iso file and the filechop.exe application in the C: drive's root (or whichever drive your vista is installed on), then when you go to the command prompt, just type

                    CD \

which'll get you to the C: drive's root, then you can type the command back there (or copy/paste it if you're worried about mis-typing). you could also rename the iso file to wiikey.iso just to make things easier to type

Just tried the filechop in Vista and it doesn't recognise the command!

'filechop.exe.' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
                      operable program or batch file.
