Website experts - more help needed

Possibly. See, with Dreamweaver I could set up the website I want but I'm wondering if there is a better way of doing it. What I want to do is set up a really basic website that has a pic on the main page. Then I'd like to be able to update that pic on a regular basis as easily as possible and put the previous pic in an archive. Almost like a blog that is just an image each time.

So, as I said, I could set the website up in Dreamweaver (I only know the basics) but it would mean me going in and editing it and updating the archive page each time I want to update. But I'm looking at webcomics and thinking that they are using pretty much the system I want to use and I can't imagine they're pulling their website apart each time.

With some digging, I've found some people are using WordPress and a template thing called ComicPress. Anyone know anything about these? I've had a look and they may be a bit beyond me but might be what I need.

    Can anyone help with this?

I've been using Contribute to edit my website (also a Macromedia program), which i do on a regular basis. Once you've done the initial set up to your site its a piece of piss.

Sounds like a really simple php job to me with a mysql database for the archive and the front page would only display the most recent entry. Well thats what I would do anyway so I could have a design that I wanted rather than one moulded around something like wordpress, unless you want to add comments to the images etc that is?

No, I wouldn't want comments or anything. Just a really basic page template with the current image smack bang in the centre and an archive. Or maybe a way to scroll through them by date. You know the way something like Penny Arcade has their current comic as 'comic.jpg' and then if you hit the navigation buttons it seems to bring up each older comic by date name. They wouldn't have to create a new dated page each time, would they?

I'll have a look at that Contribute thing. Kurosaki, you could be right that it's a simple php job. Unfortunately, I don't know coding at all, which is why I've only really used Dreamweaver - because it's sort of easy just to lay stuff out without any coding.

If its that simple and your host has php and a mysql database available, Im sure I could put something together.

Wow, that would be great. I'll check that and then bang you a PM to let you know what I'm thinking and, if you could help at all, I'd really appreciate it.

I use blogger to keep my archive up to date. Its very simple to use, easy to update and you can monkey around with the template if you wish. and its free!

Rossman, is managing a blogger page from your own site the same as doing it with a blogspot page?

yeah, you can basically just host it anywhere, then use the standard blogger admin page to update it. Its a really great free service and has taken a lot of work out of the process of updating my archive
